Vineyard

Captain Vineyards is situated on a 35% slope and receives over 10 hours of California sunshine on summer days. Through consultation with experts and vineyard designers, we established a 3×5 matrix of vines and rows. By design, we spur train our vines to limit production to less than 5 pounds per vine. As a result of this practice, the wines produced from our grapes have a great deal of body, complex character, and exquisite flavor. The decision to harvest is made when the grapes are judged to be ready in all technical aspects (sugar content Brix, tartratable acidity TA, alkalinity pH) as well as other factors such as ripeness, seed development and, most importantly, taste. We also encourage sustainable local growers to provide us with their grapes to be incorporated into our local wine.
